Who, when Penguins will play
Noteworthy games in their 2026-27 schedule
There’s no way of knowing where the Penguins will be when the 2026-27 regular season ends, but with the release of the schedule, they now know the path they’ll travel to get there.
With the NHL going to an 84-game season, the Penguins will face each Metropolitan Division club four times, every Western Conference team twice and every Atlantic Division opponent three times. The latter includes two games at Montreal, Buffalo, Florida and Detroit and two at home against Boston, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto.
Broadcast information for the coming season will be released at a later date.
Here are some of the highlights from the Penguins’ schedule for the coming season:
*** The Penguins will open the season Sept. 30 in Philadelphia and play their home opener Oct. 3 against Montreal. They also will provide the opposition for Washington’s home opener on Oct. 7.
*** A four-game homestand, matching the longest of the season, will lead into the NHL’s holiday break, with visits from Tampa Bay (Dec. 15), Los Angeles (Dec. 17), Seattle (Dec. 18) and Buffalo (Dec. 22).
*** The Penguins’ longest road trip of the season will come in February, when they will go to Edmonton (Feb. 13), Seattle (Feb. 15), Vancouver (Feb. 16), Calgary (Feb. 19) and Minnesota (Feb. 23). They will have to cross the U.S.-Canada border a total of four times on that trip.
*** There will be 15 sets of back-to-back games — that’s one fewer than last season — with the first coming on Oct. 9-10, when a visit to Columbus is followed by a home game against Dallas.
*** The Penguins will provide Philadelphia’s opposition in the first game of the season, while the Flyers will visit PPG Paints Arena in the Penguins’ final home game of the regular season. Philadelphia also will play here Jan. 31.
*** Carolina, the defending Stanley Cup champions, will be here for the first time on Jan. 31.
*** There will be a stretch of 11 games in a row against Metro teams March 16-April 6.
*** The Thanksgiving Eve home game tradition continues, with Calgary coming to town on Nov. 25.
*** The Penguins will play their final four games of the season on the road after concluding a stretch with five of six at PPG Paints Arena.
