Penguins add a defenseman
Trevor van Riemsdyk, late of Washington, signed as free agent
The Penguins have added another right-shot defenseman, signing former Washington blue liner Trevor van Riemsdyk.
He is 34 years old and checks in at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds.
The two-year deal carries a salary-cap hit of $4 million.
His brother is longtime NHL winger James van Riemsdyk, but unlike James, Trevor plays a defense-oriented game.
He would seem to be a candidate to compete for a spot on the right side of the No. 3 pairing, although he has experience on the left, as well.
